NEW DETACHMENTS.
INCREASE IN ACTIVITY. Progress in the work of the voluntary aid detachments of the Auckland centre of the Ped Cross Society was reported at the quarterly meeting of the centre. Five new women's divisions had been added, while two men's detachments and a number of sections were being formed throughout the area. The work of the transport corps had also increased. In first aid posts established under the Emergency Precautions Scheme, a total of 815 persons had been enrolled for work. From the comforts committees, over 14,000 garments had been forwarded for distressed civilians in Great Britain, in addition to contributions made to various local organisations The work of Red Cross circles in schools under Sister Collins had also expanded considerably. The opinion that the activities of the society were being unduly restricted by certain regulations brought in since the war was* ex pressed by a large number of those present. It was stated that instead of the Government combining the efforts of various organisations, it had permitted overlapping through the creation of a number of new bodies.
