CAUSES OF FIRES.

CALLS ON CITY BRIGADES.

Grass and scrub fires were responsible for the majority of the 161 calls to which the Auckland Fire Brigade responded during the past month, according to a report presented to the Auckland Metropolitan Fire Board to-day by the superintendent, Mr. W. L. Wilson. There vrere 18 calls to scrub fires, and 20 to fires causcd by sparks from railway engines. Six outbreaks were attributed to children playing with matches; three to fat igniting in ovens and on gaa stoves, and two to cigarettes ' thrown down alight.
