RECORD BIRTHS.
WHANGAREI STATISTICS. (0.C.) WHANGAREI, this day. The year 1940 has seen a record number of births registered in Whangarei. For the year 448 births -were registered, as compared with 410 for the previous year. The figures for the last quarter of the two years were 134 and 105. Marriages -in 1940 showed a decline from the peak year of < 1930. Last year 167 marriages were registered, "aB compared with 182. For the final quarters of each year the figures were 40 and 57, the latter being the record quarter. Deaths last year -were 142, 31 being registered during the last quarter. In 1939 143 deaths were registered, 34 in the final quarter.
