OBITUARY.
CAPTAIN HAROLD PARKER,
The death has occurred of Captain Harold Parker, aged 53, a very well known coastal master, who was said to know every inch of the coast from the North Cape to the Bluff. The son of a master mariner who was well known in Auckland in the early days, Captain Parker had spent his whole life at sea, first as a scowman and a rafter and later as mate and master of coastal ships, including the tug Akaroa. Since about 1931 he has been in command of the Tiri, one of A. G. Frankham. Limited'? vessels, hut recently he had been ashore on sick leave. Captain Parker leaves a widow and two daughters. MR. C. C. SMITH. (0.C.) NAPIER, this day. The chairman of the Hawkc's Bay County Council. Mr. Charles Cowper Smith, has died at the age of 67 years. Mr. Smith was the eldest son of the Hon. W. C. Smith, MJ..C., who was member of Parliament for the Waipawa electorate for many years before he was appointed to the Upper House. For some time Mr. C. C. Smith was farming in the central Hawke's Bay district, and later took up land in the Eskdale district. He leaves six sons and one daughter.
MRS. JANE BOWDEN. The death has occurred of Mrs. Jane Bowden, aged 84, a well known Auckland resident. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Howard, she came to New Zealand from Australia with her parents in 18(54 and settled in Christchurch. Five years later they came to Auckland and after a short period on the Thames goldfields, finally settled here. Mrs. Bowden was married in 1873 to the late Mr. Will Bowden, who was in those days one of the 'best known of Auckland-h cab-owners and drivers. A resident of Auckland for 67 years, Mrs. Bowden is survived by three daughters, 18 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and one great --great-grandchild.
