MIDGET CAR SEASON OPENED BEFORE CROWD OF 7000.

The popularity of midget car and motor cycle racing was emphasised at the Western Springs on Saturday night when a crowd estiniat'xl at 7000 attended tihe opening of the season. The main event of tihe evening, a midget car race over 12 laips. attracted 11 contestants, and was notable for a splendid performance by P. Brewer, who has recently returned irom a season of speedway racing in the United States. He also won t*he Invitation SU.kes and the Butcher Cup. 'Spectacular broadsiding was witnessed in the motor cycle events, and consistent performances were given :by G. Mudgway, w'lio won the Summer Handicap, and R. Seed, who won the Stadium Handicap.
