CLUBS AND SOCIETIES.
Woman's Progress Club. —Mr*. C. E. Dickons presided at the weekly inci'ting 1 of the Woman's Progress Club of the Higher Thought Centre, when Mr. Hurry Oaze spoke on "The Science of Successful Progress.'' The president reported progress of the fund to assist the Y.W.C.A. to build huts for women war workers 111 England, and said that the total now stood at over £44. Solos were rendered by Mrs. Beryl White.
Kentish Association.—The annual dinner was held at Cooke's restaurant, Mr. G. S. Baker, the president, presiding. Guests of the evening were Mr. Duncan, president of the Ulster Association, and Mrs. Duncan, and Mrs. H. V. Hampton and Mr. Brooks, representing the Birmingham and Midland Counties' Association. After dinner, the evening was sjkmit in dancing and items.
Otahuhu Home League.—The sixteenth anniversary of tbe League was celebrated at the Salvation Army Hall, Mrs. Thomson welcoming the guests. The speaker was (Mrs.) Brigadier .Suter. Representatives of various religious, patriotic and humanitarian societies expressed greetings of goodwill. Items were enjoyed.
United Women's Movement.—Mr. Brian Knight was the speaker at the fortnightly luncheon, hi* subject being "The Problem Child." He showed that a ehild so described should not be regarded as sub-normal. but as a normal or even a super-normal being reacting naturally to an abnormal environment.
New Women's Club.—Mrs. P. Humphreys pave an impromptu talk on "Conditions of the Working Class Women of Great Britain." After discussion, it was resolved to reopen the question of motherhood endowment with the Government, in view of the disquieting percentage of unfitness revealed in the men recently examined for active service overseas. Memfbers expressed the view that the inadequate income of the parent had a direct bearing on the physical fitness of the child, Mrs. W. B. Darlow presided.
New Zealanders and Pioneers.—The monthly afternoon meeting was held in the Fabian rooms, Mrs. Johnston presiding. Talks on early days were given by Mesdames Hendry, Addison, McConnell and Mr. Dun. Mis* Bsreaford alio gave a short talk. Mrs. McGowan gave several items on the and Mrs. McConnell gave two solos.
Yugoslav Club.—The ladies of the Yugoslav Club (Inc.), patriotic branch, held their annua] meeting in the clubrooms. The following officers were elected:—President. Mrs." G. Versalko; vice-president, Mrs. M. Deveich; treasurer, Mrs. S. Suniicli; hon. secretary, Mrs. M. Jakich.
