FINE FIELDS.

AUCKLAND CLUB.

THE FIRST DAY.

PROGRAMME FOR NEXT SATURDAY.

Excellent fields have been attracted for the first day of the spring meeting of the Auckland Racing Club, which opens at Ellerslie next Saturday, and some good racing is promised.

Twenty-two remain in the chief event, the Mitchelson Cup, the only surprise defections being those of Te Kawiti, who won the Jellicoe Handicap at" the Pakuranga meeting and also the President's Handicap at Paeroa hist Monday, and Proud Fox. The latter, however, has had his attention confined to sprint races this season and he has been paid up for in the Shorts Handicap, six furlongs. Thirteen remain in the Great Northern Guineas and 15 in the Welcome Stakes, the classic events, while the Gordon Handicap has drawn so many acceptors that the race will Lave to be run in divisions. The stake will be increased from £300 to £500, the winner of each division receiving £200, the second horse £35 and the third £15. The acceptances are:— TRIAL HURDLES or £350.
