SOLDIERS' PAY.
QUESTION IN PARLIAMENT

An urgent question by Mr. Broadfoot (National, Waitomo) in the House of Representative* yesterday, asked the Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) whether, in view of the recent order of the Court of Arbitration increasing the wages of award workers by 5 per cent to enable them to meet the increased cost of living, the Government intended making provision to increase, correspondingly the pay and allowances of New Zealand's fighting men so as to compensate their wives and familiee for the increased cost of living.
Replying, Mr. Fraser said that the hon. member would appreciate the. fact that soldiers called up for the Expeditionary Force, either in this country or abroad, were not materially affected by the cost of living. "What about their dependents?" chorused members of the Opposition. "The question of dependents," said Mr. Fraser, "is being examined."—(Parliamentary Reporter.)
