MR. R. T. REID DEAD. HARBOUR BOARD CHAIRMAN. WELL-KNOWN SPORTSMAN. The death occurred suddenly this morning on his farm, near Hamilton, of Mr. R. T. Reid, chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board, and one of the best known sportsmen in the Dominion. Mr. Reid returned from Wellington by the express yesterday morning, after attending a conference of Harbour Board employers. He was at the Auckland Harbour Board office during the day, and left yesterday afternoon by -:ar tor Hamilton. As president of the Wiiikato Wrestling Association, he was present at a wrestling match held at Hamilton last evening. When he collapsed, he was paying a visit to his farm.

Trotting Club iresident. It was in sporting circles that Mr. Reid was best known, and he was keenly interested in boxing, wrestling, racing and trotting. He raced horses in both branches of the sport. He owned Royal Artist, which won the Mitchelson Cup at Ellerslie in 1932, Prince of Orange, which accounted for the Great Northern Hurdles in 1936, Tea Trader, which won the A.R.C. Royal Stakes, and was afterwards sent to America, and High Comedy, which won the Manawatu Sires' Produce Stakes. At the time of his death he had Marshall Hall, Beau Repaire, Royal Bachelor, Olympus, Whirling and others. The best-known trotter he owned was Eccentric, while Miss Rolfe was a useful performer in his colours.

At the time of hie death Mr. Beid was president of the Waikato Trotting Club, and a steward of the Waikato Racing Club. At one period of his career he "was chief stipendiary steward for the New Zealand Trotting Conference.

Of late Mr. Reid lived in Auckland. He is survived by his wife, "who recently went to Australia on a visit.
