ONE DAY LAY-OVER.
CLIPPER AT CANTON. NEW OFFICIAL FOR AUCKLAND. To-day, after completion of the first two stages of her return trip to San Francisco, the Pan-American Airways machine, American Clipper, is laying over for a day at Canton Island. She has completed about half the northward journey, and leaves for Honolulu tomorrow. The trip to Noumea on Saturday, completed in good weather conditions, took seven hours 12 minutes. On the trip to Canton yesterday, the Clipper made a deviation in her course to fly over the Fiji Croup for survey purposes. She arrived at Canton Island at 9.58 p.m., "Sew Zealand time, the journey taking 13 hours 55 minutes.
On the next Pan-American Clipper to come to Auckland, on July 31, a passenger will be Mr. Philip* Delaney, of San Francisco, a Pan-American official, who will take up the position of traffic manager at the Auckland base. His last base was Hongkong, where he was also in charge of traffic operations.
