Six Hurricane fighter 'planes fought 80 German raiders which were attacking shipping over the Channel yesterday afternoon without loss to themselves. They shot down one Messersehmitt and drilled with lead several other fighters and also bombers.
The Hurricanes. were patrolling at a high altitude when they saw a Nazi armada 2000 ft above them. The bombers and fighters packed tightly together for safety.
While the three Hurricanes attacked the bombers, others engaged 40 Messerschmitts and seriously damaged several, but the German losses are not claimed because, in the heat of battle the fighters were unable to see the end of their victims.
