PUBLIC SERVICE QUEEN. PRESENTATION OF ADDRESS. Organised by the executive committee of the Public Service Queen Carnival, a workers' get-together evening held at the Fanners' tearooms on Saturday evening was an unqualified success. Mr. R. G. May, Chief Postmaster and president of the committee, was chairman and extended a welcome to the 4(10 guests, also to Mrs. W. B. Darlow (Sea Queen), Miss M. Hutchison (Air Queen) and Miss. Estelle Boucher (Public Service Queen), Marina, "Joan" and members of the Happiness Club.
At the conclusion of the dinner Miss Boucher was the recipient of a framed illuminated address. Mr. J. Griffiths proposed the toast of the visiting queens, Mrs. W. B. Darlow responding. "Carnival Workers" was proposed by Mr. F. W. Grey (Agriculture), who said that the final "result of £14.000 was a tribute to the good work done by all, as the Public Service effort did not receive any very large donations, the major portion coming from the sale of art union tickets. Mr. W. R. Butcher (Kailway) responded. The efficiency of the work of the secretary, Mr. F. W. Grey, was expressed by Mr. McGregor (Public Works), who said that the experience gained by Mr. Grey when acting as secretary for the Public Service Queen in the 1915 carnival had proved of invaluable assistance to the committee, and he read a letter from the organiser of the Central Committee's House Art Union complimenting the committee upon the brilliant work of the Public Service committee in making the art union the success it undoubtedly was. Mr. Grey suitably responded.
A vote of thanks to the executive committee was moved by Mr. Joe McDowell (Railway Workshops) and carried enthusiastically.
