FRENCH LINER.
Crew's Attempt To Scuttle Reported. DENIAL IN OTTAWA. (Received 1 p.m.) NEW YORK, July 9. It is reliably stated that efforts of the crew of the French liner Pasteur to scuttle the ship, anchored in Bedford Basin, near Halifax, were thwarted. All armed party of British forced their way aboard and closed the sea cocks. There was scuffling, but 110 gunfire. The Pasteur sailed from New York on June 17, carrying munitions, under the British flag. It is officially denied in Ottawa, however, that the crew attempted to scuttle the liner.
