WRONGLY STATED.
French Version Of Armistice Terms. AFTERMATH OF ORAN. (Received 1.30 p.m.) RUGBY, July S. It has been noticed here that in the report issued from Vichy with' the authority of the Petaih Government regarding the British action at Oran, the provisions of the Compeigne armistice terms, as they affect the French Fleet, arc misrepresented in certain respetts. The report states that the terms provided that the Freneh Fleet should be conducted to ports in the non-occupied zones, there to be disarmed, put hore d<; combat, and guarded by French crews.
In fact, article 8 of the armistice terms provided that the French Navy, except that part left at the disposal of the. French Government to safeguard French interests in the French Colonial Empire, was to be assembled in ports specified by. Germany and Italy and demobilised and disarmed under supervision in these ports. It added that those ports were to be the peacetime naval station of those ships.
Reference in the French statement to non-occupied ports, therefore, is an interpolation which, in fact, does not appear in the armistice terms as published by Germany.
