LOCAL BODIES.

OTAHUHU BOROUGH COUNCIL. The fortnightly meeting of the Otahuhu Borough Council was held last evening, the Mayor, Mr. C. R. Petrie, M.P., presiding. Street Numbers.—Owing to the council not being prepared at present to incur the expense of letting a contract for street numbering, it adopted a proposal from Amalgamated Sales, Limited, to negotiate with individual residents. Football Club. —Permission was granted to any ratepayer of the League Football Club to peruse office documents regarding the letting of Sturges Park to the Rugby Union. In regard to the water account owing by the same club, which they allege went to the sister code, the town clerk stated that carbon copies inspected by the parks committee prove that with one exception accounts were addressed correctly. The previous decision to press the claim was adhered to. In view of the club being unable to provide lighting for their ground, the council resolved not to make any charge when the ground ia not in use.

Light Failure. —Stating that they were not aware that streets in the eastern area of the borough were without lights on two nights, the Auckland Electric Power Board wrote that they were at a loss to account for the cause. The council expressed disappointment with the reply and deputed Mr. Grey to make investigations.

Pig Raising.—Complying with a request from the Auckland town clerk to go into the matter of raising pigs for home consumption, the various areas available in the borough for the purpose were discussed, but the matter wae referred to the works committee for a report.

State Houses.—The council decided to grant permission to the State Housing Department to drain the area occupied by State houees in Station Road into the borough storm water drain.

Condolence. —The council stood in silence in respect to the late Mr. J. S. De Montalk, who was a member of the council from 1927-29.

Patriotic Meeting.—ln lieu of calling a public meeting as decided upon at the previous council meeting, the Mayor said he wished to appoint an executive to deal with matters pertaining to the farewelling of troops, with the Mayor as chairman, Mr. A. Murdoch (deputy-chairman), town clerk (secretary and treasurer), Messrs. Morton, Lawes, Pegler, Grey (organiser). McDowell, Lovell and Wells, Meedames McTvor and the Mayoress. His reason for this departure, stated the Mayor, was to have a committee of responsible persons, otherwise he would not delegate his authority, and a public meeting may have the effect of defeating the end in view. The minute on the council records was rescinded.
