UNIVERSAL PENSION.
APPLICATIONS TOTAL 32,898. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON", Friday. The number of applications lodged to the end of la9t moivth for the universal superannuation of £10 under the Social Security Act was 32,898. The Minister of Social Security, the Hon. W. E. Parry, stated that 29,900 claims had been granted. Of 720 applications ruled out, approximately, half had been submitted •by persons disqualified from receiving superannuation benefits by reason of their being in receipt of other monetary benefits under the Social Security Act. The majority of the 2278 applications remaining on hand were from persons who had had difficulty in submitting the proofs necessary to establish 'their eligibility. "All possible assistance," Mr. Parry udded, "is being,given l»y the Department to ensure that finality will be reached with a minimnm 0 f delay."
