CROSSING SMASH.

ASHBURTON, Friday.
A middle-aged returned soldier farmer at Lagmhor, Canterbury, Mr. Thomas Black, suffered severe head injuries this afternoon when a goods train collided with the truck he was driving at a level crossing. J Mr. Black endeavoured to swing the. truck away from the engine, but the . vehicle was struck on the side of the ' bonnet, being hurled against a tele- • graph pole. Sir. Black was thrown out only a foot from the rails. »
