MORE PRODUCTION.

BUTTER AND PIG WIEAT.

DRIVE IN NORTH AUCKLAND.

(By Telogniph.— Own Correspondent.)

WHANGAREI, this day.

A drive for more buttc.r and pig meat production in the North is to be launched next week. For the past two days the Dairy Board, the Food Controller (Mr. A. H. Cockayne) and members of the Farmers' Union have been in conference in Wellington regarding measures to meet the United Kingdom Government's request for an extra 15,000 tons of clieeso and 10,000 tons of pig meat this season. In a statement' to the Press to-day the Northern Ward representative on the Dairy Board, Mr. A. J. Murdoch, said it had been dccided to undertake a drive for more, production. In the southern part of the country emphasis will be placed on the necessity for greater outputs of cheese and pig meat, while in Northland the goal set will be. for butter and pigs. "The Old Country lias indicated that she requires as much cheese as wp cr.u export, but it is also desirable that the output of butter should be maintained," Mr. Murdoch said. "In Northland we have to supplement our output in order to make good the loss of butter production by the conversion of Waikato and Taranaki factories to the manufacture of cheese." A series of meetings is being arranged by the Fanners' Union in the main centres of' the Auckland province. The campaign will start at Kaitaia 011 Monday. In each centre committees will be set up.
