HOT BOX'S EFFORT.

JEWELLED GIRDLE IMPRESSES SEVERAL HORSES SCHOOLED. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") HAMILTON, this day. Tfce extreme outside of the course proper was used for galloping at Te Rapa this morning, but the going was dead and cutting out, and consequently not conducive to fast times. There was little of outstanding note recorded, although Hot Box again drew attention to his prospects by a solid effort over seven furlongs. Maranota (Brown) and Dark Rose (C. L. Goulsbro) were associated over half a mile in 57is, a useful effort for horses of their class. Hot Box (J. Mcliially) and Jewelled Girdle (Gollop) hit out over seven furlongs In 1.44, there being little between the pair. Hot Box is in good heart for his engagement in the Southern Queen Handicap here, while Jewelled Girdle, who is at home under easing conditions, is not. without prospects of springing a surprise. Acreman (McKeniie) and Acute (Howard) ran half a mile in 57JS. A useful effort over fire furlongs was credited to Bronze Step (Brown) and Hum-a-Song, with Acquest (Long) a length away at the end of five furlongs in 1.12. Sockettes (McGregor) ran once round in 2.21&, iiis last six furlongs in 1.30. Sockettes is bearing a healthy appearance and should make a bold bid to repeat on Saturday his achievement of Te Awamutu. Looking WellHunt ins Blood (Brown) came home from half a mile in r>7 J s. He is looking well and is not without prospects among the sprinters at the approaching meeting. Glenberan (Ensor) finished clear of Mayfalr (Ramsay) over three furlongs in 395. He was travelling well within himself throughout and Is in splendid order for racing this week-end. Cappy (Brady) was clear of Te Monatekapa (Gilmer) at the completion of a circuit in 2.26 1-5. General Riske (Long) ran five furlongs in 1.14}. Midland, Hunanga and Postscript sot to the end of half a mile in 1.1. Poutama (©ay) was finishing on to shade Gas Acre (Ensor) over half a mile in 57«5. It was an encouraging effort on the part of Poutama. who appears to be on the upgrade. Sunny Downs (Ensor) and Raceline (Maynell) finished practically on terms at the end of seven furlongs in 1.43 4-5, the last halfmile in 58 4-5-s. Sieglinde (Brown) came home over the final three furlongs in 455. The Jumpers. Allegretto (McGregor) was schooled over two hurdles in front of the stands and, though he jumped carefully, he negotiated them safely. #He will be making a reappearance after a spell in the Hack Hurdles on Saturday. Black Musk and Son of the Soil gave a satisfactory exhibition over four hurdles. Mio Fratollo (Maria), Mungacre (Day) and Etcetera (O. Mclnally) were associated In a dashing exhibition over four flights of hurdles and there was little between the trio at the completion of the effort. Cappy (Brady) and Te Monatekapa (Gilmer) gave a pleasing exhibition over two hurdles in front of the stands. Riding Engagements. H. liong has been engaged to ride Raceline. Acquest and Trilliarch in their engagements at Te Bapa on Saturday.
