LOST EVERYTHING.
COULD NOT GET BACK. After the explosion, most of the Niagara's crow, in the forepart of the ship, went so quickly to their stations that they did not have time to , gather any of their belongings. One of the crew described this morning how, at a later stage, he tried to get back to his quarters, but he found the fire doors closed, and he could not get there. He did not mind a winter morning in Auckland, despite the fact that he possessed neither a shirt nor a pair of socks, but he grieved that under his pillow had been his wallet with £10 in it, and that, with the rest of 'cherished belongingwere now at the bottom of the sea.
