YACHTSMEN'S BALL.
TOWN HALL A LINER. NAUTICAL MOTIF, The Town Hall was an ocean-going liner for a few hours last night, when a yachtsmen's ball was held in aid of the funds of the Queen of the Seas, Mrs. W. B. Darlow. The guests were admitted by "official passes," the invitations stilting that overcrowding would be overlooked, arid fairway marks Would not be observed. The "fqredeck," on which thq guests danced, presented a colourful spectacle. A perspective view.of the funnel on the Tjridge deck was erected at tho back of the stage, which housed the band. In the foreground, between the binnacle and the engino room controls, stood the captain. In the centre of the ballroom, on a higli stand was placed the silver fern sailing boat, which is being raffled in aid of the funds of the Queen of the Seas. Further colour was provided with lines of bunting, and coloured lights strung across the hall. ] "Mooring sites" for the various clubs ■ were an added novelty, these taking the form of cubicles around the dance floor. A large variety of decorations had been chosen, the clubs represented being the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, the Royal Akarana Yacht Club, the Ponsonby Boating Club, the Takapuna Boating Club, the Auckland Yacht and Motor Club and the New Zealand Power Boat Association, the Point Chevalier Sailing Chib, the Devoiiport Yacht Club and Wakatere Sailing Club, the Riclunond Cruising Club and Herne Bay Junior Sailing Clubhand the Rowing Association. In the concert chamber, which was described in the invitations us the "crow's nest," games were played, one of the most popular being "bombs over Berlin."- The players needed no second invitation to "hit Berlin or Rome and win a prize," and willingly paid the forfeit when they dropped one on England or France. During the evening a "hornpipe ballet" was presented by the pupils of Miss Beryl Nettleton and Miss, Bettina Edwards.
