Sir Ernest said that in August last the increased cost of benzine, Diesel fiifl and mileage tax, together with an increase in the cost of tyres, oil and supplies, made it necessary for the company to apply to the No. 1 Licensing Authority for an increase in fares amounting to one-sixth of a penny to a halfpenny per trip on weekly tickets. The application was granted in November, the company carrying the whole of the increased costs in the intervening months.
