ARMY HOSTEL.
GOOD PROGRESS MADE.
OFFERS OF ASSISTANCE
"Everything is going on remarkably well." said Colonel T. H. Dawson at the. meeting of the Auckland Metropolitan Patriotic Committee last evening, when he presented a report in connection with the "Carrie Army Hostel," a building in Poynton Street, off Pitt Street, the use of which has been given by Mr. H. J. Butcher, free of rent, for a period of five years. Ckrionel Dawson said that general repairs and cleaning were practically completed and the building was now ready for the carpenters and plumbers to commence work. Several qualified carpenters had offered to do their part of the work voluntarily, and favourable replies were expected from various firms and organisations in the city, who had been approached for necessary materials or furnishings. Mr. Butcher reported that the Victoria 'League had donated £20 towards the purchase of furnishings for the hostel.
