WIDER POWERS.
GIVEN TO MINISTER. LABOUR LEGISLATION. PRODUCTION AT UTMOST. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON", this day. The Labour Legislation Emergency Regulations of 1940 will replace the Labour Legislation Emergency Regulations of 1939, and extend' the powers contained in those revoked by giving power to the Minister of Labour to suspend the provisions relating to the conditions of employment in any act, regulations, award or industrial agreement, or any voluntary agreement, and to prescribe in lieu thereof new conditions of employment. It may be found that in certain industries, connected with the production of war material, that there is not sufficient plant to produce requirements with existing staff, and consequently shift work may be found necessary. The regulations enable the Minister to prescribe the conditions 011 which shift work may be worked, and also enable him to prescribe any other special conditions to enable production to be carried oil to the utmost. The Minister, before prescribing the conditions, will obtain the advice of the Industrial Emergency Council, and the parties concerned.
