EVENTS IN BRIEF THE new French Government has sued for peace. Hitler and Mussolini are meeting, in Berlin or Versailles. As far as is known no reply has been received by France, but German sources say there can be no question of terms—but only complete capitulation. The French leaders have said that they will not agree to any but an honourable peace. Meanwhile, fighting continues on all fronts in France. Mr. Churchill has voiced the determination of Britain to carry on the fight. The British Government hat offered France a ''Pact of Union," under whicli Britain and France would become one nation. This offer was made before the French decided to sue for peace, and is understood to have lapsed.
