WAIPA RACES.

WOODSTOCK STAKES. THE PATERANGI HANDICAP. A REVIEW OF THE FORM.

The chicf flat race at To Awamntu on Saturday next, when the Waipa Racing Club will hold its winter meeting, is the Woodstock Stages, one mile and a quarter, while the Paterangi Handicap forms the open sprint. Cheval tie Volee, who is at the heail of the Stakes, has no form for a Jong time past, for he has not been in the money since last November. He had two races at the Great Northern meeting—'the Cornwall Handicap on the first day and the York Handicap on. the last—but he failed to get into the money in either of them, though he showed up for a while in the latter. Jack Tar has some good form over the distance this term. He contested the same event as Cheval do Voice at Ellerslie earlier In the month and he also failed. Erndale finished solidly iu the Visitors' Handicap, fix furlongs, on the last day of the same meeting to get third, and he would only need to stay on to have a show. He has not had much racing beyond sprint distances. Erlick won so easily on the last day at Ellerslie over a mile that lie will have to be considered. He scored well at Matamata over the distance. Bronze Moth was in the running at Ellerslie in the York Handicap for a good while, and his good third in the President's Handicap, one mile and a quarter, at the Franklin meeting will only need to be recollected to give him a show. Hot Box has done very little racing for some time, but he was fourth in the York Handicap, and only needs to be sound to he very troublesome. Silver Cloud was second to Jack Tar over a mile and a quarter at Whangarei recently and ran third in the Cornwall Handicap, of similar distance, at Ellerslie at the Great Northern meeting. He will have friends. Prival won two events over seven furlongs at the latter fixture, and the half-brother to Crooning looks as though he will stay on. Phllemup scored over a mile at Te Rapa and was fourth In his two efforts over a similar distance at the Great Northern meeting. Susan and Very Glad appeal most of the others. Perhaps Silver Cloud, Prival. Erlick, Bronze Moth and Hot Box may be most fancied at present. The Six Furlongs. Orate, the top weight in the Paterangi Handicap, has not Impressed lately, but Brazen Bold, after his success iu t lie King George Handicap at the Great Northern meeting, will have some support, for he should find the conditions to suit him. Erlick Is engaged in the Woodstock Stakes, While Besiege has not won since accounting for the sprint event on the second day of the Waikato meeting last February. He annexed the Paterangi Handicap last season. Te Takina won well at Te Rapa, and after being left in the Visitors' Handicap, six furlongs at the Great Northern meeting, finished fourth. She would only need * jur . way on Saturday to be very ha r * to beat. Young Paddon has some pace, while Te Monowaj is useful when right, but has not been seen out for some time. Flying Acre performed well at the Great Northern meeting, being third in the King George Handicap, seven furlongs, and the York Handicap, one mile, after winning at Te Rapa, Paddy the Rip was fourth In the King George Handicap, and he. Town Section and Requiem appear to be the best of the others. Town Section was a winner over the distance at, Te Rapa. A few who may find favour just now are Te Takina, Flying Acre, Brazen Bold and- Besiege.
