STRUCK BY TAXI.

FIVE MEN INJURED. PANMURE-HOWICK MISHAP. When a taxi driven by Mr. Arthur Kaynor Lowe struck a group of pedestrians on the Panmure-Howick main highway shortly after six o'clock on Saturday evening, one man was seriously injured and four other men slightly injured. The men were taken to the Auckland Hospital in a motor truck. The injured were: Mr. Bertram Henry Carter, aged 45, labourer, married, of River view Road, Panmure, head injuries and concussion, condition fair; George Sharp, of the Maori Battalion at Palinerston North, injuries to the legs and laceration* to the scalp; Mr. Andrew Thompson and his brother, of Kiverview Road, Panmure, head injuries; and a fifth man whose name is not known, bruises and lacerations to the legs. The last-mentioned four were treated in the casualty department.
