VENDORS' MARGIN.

DELIVERY OF MILK. EXPLANATION" BY COUNCIL. Referring to a published report of a recent meeting of the Milk Vendors' Association, the chairman of the Auck land Metropolitan Milk Council. Mr. I. .T. (Joldstine. taid at a meetingyof the council, held this morning, that the public was likely to he misled by the phrase: '"The association contended that the recent increase in the price of mill: to consumers in the metropolitan area —<Hd per quart in zoned areas and 7«1 in open areas—a> fixed by the council, had resulted in a reduced margin t« vendors of 20 per cent."'

Mr. fJoldstine said such a report was likely to make one believe that the vendors" margin had been reduced by 2u per cent in zoned and unzoned areas. That was not the ease. The vendor-.* margin in unzoned area? had for year* been 10d a gallon. In the zoned areas it had been reduced by 2d to Sd. but that was the case last winter and since zoning was commenced. It should l»e made clear to the public that over the last summer months vendors in the zoned areas received the full 10d a gallon margin. With lOd over the summer months and Sd in winter the average was 9d. or Id less than in unzoned areas. "The council considers that the advantages of zoning are worth at least this Id a gallon,"' lie added.
