COMPENSATION CLAIM.
LAXD TAKEN FOR AERODROME. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) BLENHEIM, Thursday. After a hearing occupying six days the Compensation Court to-day made an award of £11,992 in favour of G. H. M. Fairhall. for land taken for the Woodbourne flying training school. Fairhall's claim againtst the Minister of Public Works totalled £20,134. The Crown offered £COOO in full settlement.
The Court allowed the claimant £700 interest in addition to the amount of the award. Costs against the Crown totalled £425, including assessors' fees of £125 each. Mr. Justice Smith presided, the assessors being Mr. Errol Keid, of Blenheim, and Mr. A. Freemnn, of ClirUtcliurch.
The case comprised two separate claims. One arose from the taking of an area in October, 193-, for a defence aerodrome project, which subsequently was abandoned, and the land restored to the owner in June, 19.37. In this connection £1394 was claimed. In February, 1039, the Government decided to proceed with the establishment of an aerodrome, and for the land taken the owner sought compensation totalling £18,740.
