WOMEN ON LAND.

KEEPING UP PRODUCTION. REPORT TO BE PREPARED. The need for steps being taken to organise women to work on the land was brought before the Auckland Provincial Patriotic Council last evening by Mr. H. D. Caro, Mayor of Hamilton. He said that the need might not be immediate, but something should be done. The women wanted to do real work, and not only knitting. Mr. W. Goodfellow, speaking of the position overseas, said there was a feeling in England that the war would last three years or possibly longer. It seemed that New Zealand's two jobs were to find men, and produce all they could. If produce from Denmark and the Baltic were cut off it would create rather a serious position. When a maximum effort was made women would be wanted on the land. Mr. J. A. S. Mackay, of Whangarei, said that production would go down if they did not have sufficient people on the land. Sir Ernest Davis said that as man- ] power went out of a producing country, production would falL It was decided to ask Mr. Caro to bring down a report on the matter, and, when It waa ready, to circulate it among the zones for comment.
