LOOKING AHEAD.

HORSES FOR WAVERLEY. I! U SSI AN" BALLET AMISS. (Special to " Star.") \\ A XGA X IT, Friday. Lord Cavendish, now owned and trained at \\ atiganui, is among the entrants for the spnut event at Waverlev. The Beau I ere gelding has been given a course ot hill work recently and this, with a few gallops, is expected to bring him back to top .form.

Amatory has been hitting out very freely of late, and lie promises to strip a very lit horse at Waverley on April 27, when he will endeavour to repeat his last years run in the Hack Cup. Amigo, who has done steady work since the Fcilding meeting, has been entered for both the sprint event ar.d the mile and a quarter. The four-year-old Siegfried mare Siegall is now trained in Wanganui by Sam Major, a part owper. She has beeu working well recently and is to run in the Maiden. Early Tide, another candidate for the Maiden, trained by A. W. Thacker. is making progress and, later on, should prove .useful.

Rehearsal was not harmed by his racing at Awapuni and he is to run in the handicap event, while Dynasty, an entry for the Hack Cup, has been running so consistently lately that he might add another win to hie credit before the season ends.

A recruit to the jumping game is Yalroy. now owned and trained by 11. \Y. Scall.v. This six-year-old gelding has given promise both over hurdles and big fences, his jumping being very fine, while there is no doubt as to his pace or stamina. Valroy is engaged in both the hurdles and steeplechase events at Waverley. Disturbed, another of Scally's team, figures in the cross-country event.

Smoke Screen, who broke down some months ago, and has since been hacked about and jumped by' Mrs. Fullartou Smith, is apparently sound again, and is now with F. Mcllugh at Mar.ton.

Russian Ballet broke down badly on the eve of the Awapuni meeting and may not race again. Because of the difficulty in procuring labour, the Fordell stablp, presided over by D. T. Marks, will in future only prepare horses carrying Mr. \V. McA. Duncan's colours. Unfortunately three of the latter's team— Kiiatiti, Scandal and Red Cat—went amiss last week, aud are not likely to race for some time.
