BRANCH ACTIVITIES.
LABOUR AT GREY LYNN.
PLAN TO FILL VACANCIES.
In discussing the decision of the Grey Lynn branch to withdraw from the New Zealand Labour party, Mr. F. Hackett, an executive member of the branch, said this morn ing that the inference that tho activities of the branch had been automatically dissolved was far from the truth.
"The Grey Lynn branch will function as though nothing has happened," he added. "It is expected that the remaining executive officers will he empowered by the national executive of the party to call a special meeting for the purpose of filling the vacancies caused by voluntary resignations. This meeting will probably take place in a week or two."
Referring to the resolution which was passed at Wednesday evening's meeting of the branch, Mr. Hackett pointed out that it must be remembered that out of a membership of over 400. only (55 members voted in favour of its adoption. A fair proportion of the members had voted in this way oijy after hearing one side of the case. Members would be advised as to when the special meeting was to lie lipid in the ordinary way, and it was expected that, after reconsidering the matter, even some of the 0.") members who favoured the resolution that was passed would t»till remain loyal members or the branch. At a later date it was hoped that members of the national executive would visit Auckland and address the branch.
