THAMES TROTS.
MAH JONG POPULAR. TUMBLE MAKES AMENDS. KOPTJ WON BY OUR JEWEL In a splendid race down the straight for the Thames Centennial Trotting Cup, Belfast Jack, a five-year-old son of Jack Potta and Logan Trincess, asserted his superiority to narrowly defeat Our Jewel, a hot each-way favourite. Our Jewel, driven by G. T. Mitchell, was just a shade in front as the two horses straightened up for the run to the judge, but when M. Stewart laid the whip on him, Belfast Jack responded courageously and he drew half a length to the front in the last 75 yards. It was his first success ever two miles and he should continue to show improvement. In view of his good form in the Cup, Our Jewel was a "certainty," on paper, for the Kopu Handicap, principal sprint event, and the betting public supported him accordingly. The ''good thing" duly came off, Mitchell bringing Our Jewel along with a nice run in the straight to win on a tight rein. The winner, a four-year-old son of Jewel Pointer is raced by Mrs. G. Jew, for whom he should secure many races. Other winners to create a very favourable impression regarding their future prospects were Revision, in the Turua Bracelet, and Mah Jong in the President's Handicap. Neither horse was called upon to do its best, and as both are on good marks it should not be long before they add to their successful record. Tumble, who covered a mile and a quarter in the Hikutaia Handicap in 2.49 2-5, from a 3.2 mark, and was beaten into 6eeond place bj" Ihi Ihi, made amends later in the day by winning the Kerepeehi Handicap, 3.1 class, from the limit. Surprisingly, he paid the best dividend of the day. Showery weather marred the attendance and consequently the totalisator suffered, the investments, £15,296, being £7194 lower than the amount handled last year. Details of late results are:— THAMES TWEXTY-FIRST AND CENTBNXIAL TROTTING CUP of £310 (including a trophy value £13). Two miles.
