SCHEME 13 WORK.
CONFERENCE TO BE HELD. LOCAL BODIES CONCERNED. Local bodies in Auckland are concerned at a proposal by the Government to curtail iSchemi 13 work, and the matter was discussed at a meeting held last evening, when there were present representatives of a number of suburban local authorities. The president of the Auckland Suburban Local Bodies' Association, Mr. I. J. Goldstine, presided, and said that in his opinion it would be better if the Department said that the scheme would cease on a certain date, as it was certain that few, if any men, could be employed under the new and severely restricted proposals. The meeting passed a resolution stating that the proposed curtailment of subsidies was viewed with grave concern, and it was decided to request the Minister of Labour to send the assistant secretary of the Department of Labour to Auckland to discues the matter with a sub-committee set up from the meeting. It was also deckled to ask the Auckland City Council, 'the Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board, and other local authorities employing Scheme 13 labour, to be associated with the subcommittee at the conference.
