RUGBY LEAGUE APPROVES. TROPHIES FOR SECOND ECHELON. The probability of Papakura Camp teams being officially represented in the .Auckland Kugby League senior competition* tine seaw.ii was indicated at the. Board of Control meeting last evening. Captain T. P. Laffey. eport* organUcr ot I apakura Camp, was cordially received, Mr. Campbell taking the opportunity to thank tlie officer for his previous services to the game. It was pointed out by Captain Laffcv that football and other sports were an important integral part of soldier training and it wan hoped that the board would niimlt one or two representative teams in the Auckland League senior competitions. I his participation would lie regarded as part of a national movement to stimulate recruiting. Arrangement* already had'been made for equipment of the team or teams in suitable playing garb of a distinctive nature. The speaker said the soldiers were free to piny nuy sport they desired, according to war conditions. Camp Teams Welcome. Mr. Campbell, with the concurrence of other members, assured Captain Laffey that the League would welcumc teams. It was announced liy the chairman that the board had received from Mr. 11. Walmsley a special trophy, named "The Tlnv rreyberg Shield." which it va* requested should be competed for by the Second Echelon in any competition nominated by the commandant. Captain Laffey was also asked to make an immediate choice from two handsome cups as the Rugby League Cup to go with the shield. The only condition attaching "The Tlnv Krevberg" Shield is that it Is to be returned to New Zealand at the conclusion of the war. Fine Body of Men. Acknowledging the prcscnta.tion.<i. He said the gift incentives were worthy of the line body of young men in the Second Kchclon. who were taking their Job very seriously and were a credit to New Zealand. Soldiers In uniform for active service are to be admitted froc to Carlaw Park this season.
