CANCER CAMPAIGN.

A MEDICAL REGISTRAR.

DR. H. GATJDIN APPOINTED.

Having decided to postpone, for the duration of the war, its plans for establishing and maintaining at the Auckland Hospital a cancer statistical research bureau, the Auckland Division of the British Empire Cancer Campaign Society has made the appointment of a registrar to the local consultation committee, who will undertake part time researches pending the creation of the actual bureau after the cessation of hostilities. - According to an announcement made by. the chairman, Sir Ernest Davis, today, the society at its last meeting appointed as registrar Dr. Howard Gaudin, of Auckland, who will also act as secretary to the division during the absence on active service of Mr. Donald McKenzie. Trained In Mayo Clinic. Sir Ernest said that the executive of the division had been impressed by the qualification* of Dr. Gaud in for the work which was required to he done. He had recently begun the practice of his profession in Auckland, after having had four years of valuable training on the staff of the famous Mayo clinic at Rochester, Minnesota, and it was anticipated that his researches in Auckland would be of considerable value to the consultation committee.

Aβ an essential part of his duties, Dr. Gaudin would visit every cancer patient in the Auckland Hospital, and keep accurate records of each case so that the deductions to be drawn could be collated and analysed, in conjunction with the statistics collected over the past ten years, said Sir Ernest. Comparative reports would be compiled for the guidance of the consultation committee accordingly. The appointment would be for a period of one year, when the position would tie reviewed.
