The position of British shipping is becoming more critical as negotiations continue without any indication that the Werument intends to give the industry the long-awaited square deal, similar to that given the railways. It is claimed that tlie daily running i * «L a <leep sea tram P steamer i>f about 9000 tous dead-weight was £51 10/ ] last January, compared with £35 sterling ' last April. The average cost of running a deep sea liner last January was about 2o per cent above the pie-war level, while ' shipbuilding coste have been almost . doubled.
