SUCCESS CONFIRMED.
RECENT AIR RAID ON SYLT. 1 LONDON, March 24. The Air Ministry in a communique says Royal Air Force observation aeroplanes confirmed the success of the Sylt raid. The photographs taken were unsatisfactory, however, because of atmospheric conditions and the inability of the airmen to approach close enough in the face of the German anti-aircraft guns and fighters. The extent of tne damage done in the raid is still being minimised by the German radio and much is made of reports of a conducted tour of inspection by representatives of three American news agencies, says a British official wireless message." These. however, suggest that the areas visited were restricted and carefully selected. The Columbia Broadcasting Company's Berlin representative commented that it was significant that the journalists were allowed to inspect only one of the several bases. The similarity and the carefully guarded nature of the reports of the visiting correspondents is commented upon in the British Press.
