COLTS' CRICKET.
AUCKLAND-TAR ANAKI. Visitors In The Field—Auckland Fares Badly. Auckland Colts fared badly in the opening stage in the cricket match against Taranaki Colts, which was commenced at Eden Park this morning. The wicket was slow and W. N. Sneddcn, winning the toss for Auckland, elected to bat. Then started a 6trtipelc for runs, as Hill, a medium-paced right-hander, developed abnormal swing, and Urry a left-hander with rhythmical action, kept a splendid length. Sneddcn was an early victim, caught at.niid-olf by Duncan, and Alan Wilkes tipped a swinger into the keeper's hands. Rowntrcc ami Elliott were also swerve victims, being held by Spedding, who was taking cleanly and giving no chances An hour's play produced only 30 runs, and not until Sutclill'e, the Takapuna Grammar School left-hander, and Johns, the Eden senior B player, got together, was the Tarannki attack held. The score was carried to 50. when Sutcliffe reached forward to a good length ball from Urry and was clean bowled. Auckland had five wickets down for ,10, and at 5G Johns, who had been batting with tine determination, was well held by Broughton at cover. Jones got a single, and then fell to a brilliant right-handed catch by Larkm at short-leg. The Aucklandcrs were finding Urry's bowling very difficult, and at the lunch adjournment (lie score was So runs for the loss of nine wickets.
