Effect Of Coal Strike On Steelworks. TRADE UNION LEVY. (Received 11 a.m.) . SYDNEY, this day. The "Herald's" Newcastle correspondent'says it is generally expected that if the "coal strike continues the Broken Hill Proprietary steelworks will practically suspend production within the next "few weeks. This, in turn, will lead to the dismissal of men from industries dependent on the steelworks for raw materials.
A motion was carried at the Faster Labour Conference pledging the support of the State A.L.P. for the striking coal miners. It was decided that all members of the party should pay a levy of 1/ a week towards financing the strike.
Voting at the conference indicated that Mr° Lansr and his supporters were defeated in the election of conference officials.
