EASTER ACCIDENTS

BOTH MOTORING MISHAPS. NUMBER OF MINOR CASES. Two deaths as the result of road accidents have occurred over the Easter holidays so far. One was at Nelson, where a young woman was killed instantly when a car crashed into a pole. Near Hamilton a Maori cyclist suffered fatal injuries when struck by a ear. TRAGEDY AT NELSON. A young woman was killed and two other' passengers wore admitted to hospital, one ill a serious condition, as a result of it car running into a telegraph pule at Wakatu, on the main Stokc-Nclson road, at 1.30 o'clock yesterday morning, states a Press Association message from Nelson. The victims Killed Miss Nancy O'Sullivan, aged 20, of Nile Street, Nelson, killed instantly. Injured Mr. -1111111 Sutherland Howard, aged *22, of South Street, Xclsoii, severe head injuries and a compound fracture of the leg. Condition serious. Mis> Smith, of Nelson, injuries to the shoulder. Admitted to hospital. j Mi:-s Sadie Howard and Mr. James j O'Brien suffered minor injuries. The ear was returning to Nelson from the country and was" driven by Mr. Alan Brake, of Nelson. Tito side of the car struck a telegraph post, which snapped ill two places. The vehicle went through the hedge, struck a tree and returned to the road, where it turned over on its side. The vehicle was wrecked. MAORI'S FATAL INJURIES. Victim of another road tragedy was a -Ij-vear-old .Maori labourer, Mr. Tokoaliit Kakatan. of Tauwhare. He suffered fatal 'injuries when his bicycle was struck by a motor car driven by Mrs. G. Washboiirnc, of Kiwitahi, on Thursday afternoon, and he died at the Waikato Hospital yesterday morning. Mr/ Itakalau iviu cycling along the Tauwhare road when struck by the car. .Mrs. Washbournc took him to the Waikato Hospital. He was suffering from severe internal injuries. All inquest opened before the district coroner, Mr. V. W. Platte was adjourned sine die after evidence of identification had been taken. •FARM HAND KNOCKED DOWN. A motor ear which failed to stop struck a farm hand, James Rouse, aged 20, son of Mr. W. P.ousc. of New Plymouth, when he was cycling along the Hamilton-Morrinsville road at Eureka late on Thursday night. He was taken to the Waikato* Hospital, but his condition is not serious. At the time of the accident a (passing motorist gave chase, but without success. FINGERS AMPUTATED.

Two -men had lingers amputated as the result of injuries. One of them, a Huritly milier, Mr. Ernest McLeod, was colliding trucks at the Renown mine and sulTered hand injuries which necessitated amputation of two lingers. The other man was a trimmer from the Kaikorai, Mr. George Humphries, aged S-l, who caught his hand in a furnace door. The little linger of his left hand was amputated at the Auckland Hospital. FALL FROM BICYCLE. In a fall from her bicycle at Shelly Beach vestcrdav afternoon, Rita Daphne Hall, U-year-old daughter of Mr. 11. J. Hall, of" 11. Arthur Street, Ponsonby, suffered concussion. She was taken to the Auckland Hospital in a. serious condition, but was reported as improved to-day. PEDESTRIAN'S MISHAP. A fractured right leg was suffered last iiiL'lit by Mr. Ralph Armstrong White, aged 28, of :M, Allenby Road, Dcvonport, when he was struck by a motor car at the corner of Lake Road and Allenby Road, He was taken to the Auckland Hospital by a St. John ambulance.
