WANGANUI WINS.
Rowing Eights—lntel-provincial Contest. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON', thte day. The inter-provincial eight-oared rowin?' championship was won convincingly by Wanganui this morning. The weather was fine and the water perfect. The course was two miles and threp. quarters from Ngahauranga to Pet one. ami the race was followed by a large crowd in a special train. The race calls for little description, "Wellington and Auckland showed out momentarily, but after half a mile Wnnsamil had gone to the front. They * tea 'lily increased the load to win by three lengths, with Wellington taking second place from Auckland by a length, after a good lusile fur that position. Otago, who had -the misfortune to harp (heir boat damaged en route to Wellington and rowed in a borrowed boat, were a couple of lengths back last. By winning to-day Wanganui equalled Otago's record of six wins in the race, but Otago still holds the record of live consecutive wins. The only other province to have won since the race was instituted is Canterbury, which won the first, contest in 1925. Wanganui. for the fourth successive year was represented by a dub crew, "but this time it was Aramolio,. which retained the honour won in the three preceding season? by Union. • Once again it was a crenwhich had won the New Zealand club championship which also won the interprovincial championship. Although 110 oflicial time was available the race must have been rowed at a particularly fast pace, aided of course by the pcrfcct conditions. The winning crew was:—Sfowors (st), Campbell, Firmin. Dearsley, Brown, Mexico!, Jeroinson, Stokes, Johnstone (cos).
