Frankham, the 1933 and 1936 New Zealand sprint swimming champion, taking part in'his first individual race of the season last night, at the Mount Eden carnival, won the first elimination heat of the 30 yards handicap in 245, a semifinal in 24 2-os and then was first in the final, again in 24 2-s<s. The New Zealand record, held 'by W. J. Jarvis (Otago), is 23 I-os. P. Hanan. the present Dominion champion, also registered 24 2-">s In another elimination heat, and 24 3-C*! In a semifinal. In the final he sprinted even better, nearly dead-heating with Frankham. who had a start of one second from him. Swimming powerfully, giving starts up to 495, Hanan was first in the final of the 220 yards handicap in 2.25. The UU 2-3 yards women's handicap resulted in a victory for Miss L. Browning (Kastern Suburbs) in 46 3-ss. The 100 yards brcaststroke handicap was won by K. Tucker (Mount Eden) in 1.38, and the IM> 2-3 yards backstroke event by W. Grlbble (Mount Eden) in 03 4-ss.

Maungawhau had two successes In the primary schools' relay championships, winning the Stevenson .Shield for the 266 2-3 yards senior event, and the Herbert Smith Cup for the senior girls' event. The 133 1-3 yards junior girls' contest for the Herbert Smith Cup was won by.Gladstone, and the Xicholson Shield for the 133 1-3 yards event for pupils of Standard IV. and under was won by Mount Eden.
