TE RAPA FORM.

ACREMANS SUCCESS. ■ J JOAN PEEL'S EFFORT. A PROMISING MAIDEN. i Acreman broke his maiden status at Te Rapa on Saturday when he accounted for the Trial Stakes. He was a good way back when the straight was readied, but, hard ridden, lie came through on the rails to win well. He was produced again later in the day when lie finished third in the Beerescourt Handicap, run over a furlong more, and in much better company, so that now he has saluted the judge he should go on to further successes. He is a half-brother to Foxscn, who races in the same colours. Joan Peel, who ran second to him, showed a bit of pace when she ran fourth in the WaLpa Plate at,.Te Avramutu last December, her previous start. She is a nice, compact filly and has breeding to recommend her, for she is by Hunting Song from Tinotere by Nassau from Spangle, by Martian from Nantes. The last-named produced Artillerie, winner of the Xew Zealand Oaks. She was sold to go to Australia and over there won the Caulfield Stakes twice. Spangle is the dam of the speedy Diatomous. Joan l'eel is only a three-year-old and she will improve a good deal, for she has been given plenty of time and has not done a great deal of racing. Loch Acre, who showed promise at Rotorua, when he ran second to Lady Acushla last Monday week, finished on to get third and he will be heard of again, for he has not had a great deal of experience and has raced consistently well in his few starts. Moymell, a filly by Night Raid, a sister to Superex, who comes from the same family as Hard Words, was made favourite for the event, but after jumping out well was never sighted. She is one of R. Johnson's team at New Plymouth, and it was only her third start, her two previous effort* being unplaced performances. Evidently she was well thought of seeing the backing she had, so that she must possess some ability. Glenbevan, who was third at Rotorua, showed a lot of pace early but faded out at the finish. However, he will do better later. He is a half-brother to Orate, by Musketoon, and, therefore, comes from the same family as Hoariri, Taneriri, Manawhcnua and Horowhenua.

The good impression formed of Charcot at Matamata was fully borne out in the hurdle events. On the first day he led all the way and, stalling off Loombination, he won well. He jumped .pleasingly throughout and seems to 'have more pace on the flat than his looks would indicate. On Monday he and Haile Boy, after fighting each other for the greater portion of the way, found themselves with little in reserve and Loombination had no difficulty in 'beating Charcot home, while Lucidus, who was making his first appearance since the previous meeting held on course in November, came along to cut Haile Boy out of third place. Lucidus will again have to be reckoned with in both hurdle races and steeplechases during the autumn and winter. Riotous never looked likely, but he will do a lot better when the steeplechasing season comes along. Ran Consistently. King Key, who finished third in the Matamata Cup, and second in the Rotorua Cup, ran right up to that form when he won-the Storey Memorial Handicap. He was always.near the leaders and once the straight Was reached simply bolted away from the field to win by a big margin. Racecamp, who has just recently been in hack company, ran two very solid races at the meeting to be second each day. In the Vercoe Handicap on Monday Royal Appellant just got him in the last few atndes and in his. present form Racecamp should soon be among the winners in open 'company. Royal Appellant was in the picture all the way. in the Storey Memorial Handicap'and finished a good fourth. On that showing he was solidly supported On the second day, and finishing on in great style just got the verdict. This horse is engaged in the Herries Memorial Cup at Te Aroha, and a repetition of that 'form would make him dangerous. Our Jean was prominent to the straight in the Cup, but then faded out, but Golden Sheila, who was having her first outings since last December, will be improved by her Taring. On Monday she was well up •half-way down the straight and then faded out.

Orelio waa made favourite for the sprint each day. On Saturday he was always in a handy position, but he could do no better than fourth at the finish. On Monday he waa a long way back at the home turn, but finished on in great style to get second. He is engaged at Te Aroha and should 'again be hard to beat. Besiege and TrMliarch led all the way in the President's Handicap, the former winning narrowly. He raced well at Matamata, when he ran third in the open sprint, and his success was well overdue, for this was his first victory for over 12 months. Trilliarch was a winner on the previous Monday at Rotorua, but he failed to show up on the second day at Te Rapa. Footloose was not started on Saturday, but on Monday was allowed to go out at a great price in the Flying Handicap considering hits-recent Southern form, for he 'wOn. fit the last Stratford' and- Taranaki meetings and was a good third to Arvakur and Spanish Lad at Trentham. last month. Footloose was drawn about the centre of the field in the Flying Handicap on Monand jumping, into the lead quickly waejievcr headed. He is a good sort, and will' go much further before: his winning tether is reached. Kathbella ran two : good fers^esWr-.'oTOupying,.;third (position on 'each occasion. Orwere wae I bandy at the turn, etch, day, but weakened over the last part. He may soon return to the winning list. Lexden, who' won wetf I "** Ashhurst last month, was right up fourth

on Monday. He was placed at New Plymouth and twice at Stratford during trhe holidays and is <lue to make his next appearance at Te Aroha. Gaymiss was easily the best of the two-year-olds, for tihe won with ridiculous ease in good time on both days. She should again take some beating at Te Aroha on Saturday. Marshall Hall, the favourite for the Juvenile Handicap, turned just as the barrier went up, and lost a lot of ground wihile lie went very wide at the turn due to the bit injuring him. He is engaged at Te Aroha on Saturday and, if he does not meet with euch unfortunate circumstances, he should do better. Youngsters from W. Towneend's stable, at Cambridge, ran well. Sure Pay being second on the first day, while Radiant Vnals was third on Monday. The former was a winner at Auckland at New Year, while Radiant Vaals has been twice in the money in five starts and should improve. Yolifox. the half-sister to Full Hand, put up two good efforts. On Saturday she finished on to get third, while on Monday she again came with a great run to just cut Radiant Yaals out of second plate. These were Yolifox's best races' to date.
