WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.

Matamata.—The February meeting of the Matamata Women's Institute was held in St. Andrew's Hall. Mrs. Stewart presided. A competition, arranged bv Mrs. Sutcliffe, was won by Mrs. C. Tavlor. Mrs. Wade gave a talk on her trip

Panmure.—There was a large attendance at the first meeting of the year of the Panmure and Mount Wellington branch of the Women's Institute. Mrs. Carnachan, vice-president, presided. The competition of the month for the best sponge cake was won by Mrs. Carnachan. Mrs. Cleveland was second.' An interesting address was given by Mrs. Pearson on her trip to the Exhibition. Mrs. Maidens also spoke.

Avoadale.—There was a fair attendance at the February meeting of the Avondale Women's * Institute. Mrs. Scholes read an interesting paper on the history of tapestry, and later demonstrated the different stitches. Competitions were won as follow:—Cooking, Miss Potter. Shqulder spray, Mrs. Bluementhal. Two new members were enrolled.
