VISIT TO RUSSIA.
TRAVELLER'S IMPRESSIONS. At a well-attended meeting of the New Women's Club recently, at which the president, Mrs. W. B. 13arlow, presided, the speaker was Mrs. Edith Bennett, JJ.A., B.Litt., who gave an account of her observations in Russia, when she visited that country last year. Mrs. Bennett said hers was essentially an educationist's visit and much of her time was spent in going to libraries, museums, theatres, the . ballet, and children's theatres, and in finding out all she could of the modern Russian culture. Several schools were also visited by the speaker, and she was interested to find them working in two shifts pending the completion of more schools. This was done in order not to sacrifice the size of the classes, which as a rule consisted of from 25 to 35 children. Many hundreds of miles were covered by Mrs. Bennett during her* Russian tour, throughout which she found the people warmly clad and all Wearing shoes or boots. "The women seemed particularly proud of their lipsticks. In fact," «aid the speaker, ''I saw as much lipstick in Moscow as I have seen in Auckland."
