DUNEDIN MEETING. SOME SMART SPRINTS. PAPER SLIPPER GOES FAST. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) ' DUNEDIN, this day. The final gallops at Wingatui this morning were- held under ideal conditions. The course proper, with the trestles 45ft out from the rails, was used and was in excellent condition. Shikari and Great Swoop ran half a mile from the seven to the three-furlong posts in 49 3-ss, the first two furlongs in 245. The two-year-old Shikari was hanging on well. Over the same ground Counterblast took 49 2-ss. the first two furlongs taking 23 4-5s —a very pleasing effort. Scold was sent six furlongs, and after slipping over the first furlong in 12 4-5s appeared to be stopping at the end of the gallop, which took 1.20. Paper Slipper, who is likely to start in the Stewards' Handicap in preference to the Publicans' Handicap, was sent half a mile, taking 24 3-5s for the first two, and 49s for the full journey. Willie Win and Capricious were companions over six furlongs. They ran the first furlong in 13s, two in 26 3-3s, three in 40s and the six in 1.22 3-5. Willie Win _ was doing best at the finish, but Capricious is a lazy track worker. Retrogression was sent half a mile. He ran the first furlong in 12 2-5s and the full journey iu 51 3-5s —a pleasing gallop. Ballad was sent a mile, and after running the first four furlongs in 525, was going easily over the next half-mile to com-l4-te the task in 1.54. Airline sprinted over three furlongs in 39 3-ss. On Call was sent three rounds over the schooling hurdles. He ran off at the fourth and hit two fairly hard, but jumped fast over the other three. Thermidor was sent seven furlongs. She covered the first three in 40s and the full journey in 1.36 3-5, but she was doing her best over the concluding stages. Alma ran five furlongs in 1.7. the last three in 425. Miltiades was always going better than The Raker over five furlongs in 1.10 4-5. Queen of Song ran six furlongs in 1.24 2-5 after taking 29s for the first two. King Gustavo traversed three furlongs in 38 3-ss, doing it well. Gay Lancer ran half a mile in 53 2-ss. while Combat was going better than Counter Lunch throughout five furlongs in 1.4 3-5. after taking 25 l-5s i for the first two furlongs. Vallock was not hunted out to run six furlongs in 1.10. Confident and Platform were sprinted over two furlongs in 255. the former finishing the better. Cherokee and Cross Rose recorded 53s for half a mile. Cherokee doing it the better. Empire Sun gave a pleasing display over nine of the steeplechase fences. Norseman and Xight Pal were sent a mile. They ran the first furlong in 13s. two in 25 l-ss. four in 50 2-55.. and the full journey in 1.45 2-5. Night Pal. who had a considerable pull in the weights, was going as well as the Cup candidate at the finish. Roseman and McHeath were schooled over two hurdles, the latter showing to most advantage. Spanish Lad was sprinted over three furlongs in 41 2-ss, going easily all the way.
