LITERARY CONTEST. ESSAYS, POEMS, STORIES. AUCKLANDERS' SUCCESSES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Raymond, Waipukurau, 2. Short Poem. —Miss Helena Henderson, t'hristchurcli, "Earth Lovers" and the I\ev. J. R. Harvey, Christchurcli, "War Refugee," (equal), 1. I'lav (tirst prize not awarded).—Miss Janet MeLeod, St. Albans, (Jhristchureh, •'The. Snare," 2; Miss Audrey Leathes, St. Helier's Auckland, "Dark the Path," 3. Novel.—F. H. Harris, Lakemba, New South Wales, "The Man Who Worked," 1; second prize not awarded; Mrs. E. N. Greatorex, Edpecliff, New South Wales, 3; Mrs. A. McCarthy. Mohaka, Hawke's Rav, "Castles in the Soil," also gets a third prize. Short Story.—Miss E. Midgley, Point Chevalier, Auckland, "The River," and Frank Sargeson, Takapuna, Auckland, "The Making of a New Zealander," (equal), 1; R. Finlavson, Weymouth, Auckland, "The Totara Tree," 3. "I am sure, something of value to New Zealand literature has been achieved by holding the competition," Mr. Parry said.
