MOTORIST ACQUITTED.

INTOXICATION CHARGE. "There is some uncertainty about the case and on the evidence of the doctor who examined him I could not convict the defendant," said Mr. J. Morling, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday afternoon when a salesman, James Robert Farquharson, aged 28, appeared on summons, charged, on October 16, with being in a state of intoxication while in charge of a motor car in Great South Rond, and negligent driving. Mr. J. J. Sullivan appeared for defondant, who pleaded not guilty to the charge and admitted that he was technically guilty of the second through the failure of the steering gear. The magistrate said defendant's condition may have been caused by the two lacerations he received on the forehead when his car struck a pole. The first charge was dismissed. On the charge of negligent driving defendant was fined ;£3 and costs.
