An affeinpt was made recently to wreck a machine worth .£ 1.1,000 a t the Pyrmont works of the Colonial Sugar Refinery Company. Bolts and pieces of steel were placed in the cogs of the machine, and between the piant rollers.
The police are satisfied it was a deliberate act of sabotage, and a reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest of the perpetrator.
The Colonial Sugar Refining Co., Ltd., have- five refineries in Australia—one in each main centre —and one in New Zealand. The Pyrniont plant is the largest of them all. It is built on a 25-acre section, which also contains a factory recently erected for the manufacture of insulating board from cane fibre. The capacity of the Pyrmont refinery is 200,000 tons per annum. Pyrmont is on Sydney harbour about two miles distant from the capital, and its wharves are a quarter of a mile in length. In addition to refining sugar and manufacturing wall board the company has a plant for producing both liquid and solid carbon dioxide. The company also has a research laboratory at Pyrmont. »
